Southafrica at the UN

South Africa on 1 January 2011 began its second term as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council for the period 2011 and 2012. South Africa’s membership is guided by its commitment to strengthening the multilateral system and its support for a broader multilateral approach to questions of international peace and security. As member of the UNSC, South Africa undertakes to discharge its responsibility, alongside the other members of the Council, in a manner that will make a meaningful contribution to peace, security and development. South Africa will forge close partnerships and promote greater consultation with other members of the Council.

On this page, we will regularly publish Statements on South Africa's positions on decisions of the UNSC.
