South Africa at ProWein 2017

South Africa at ProWein 2017 - Ambassador Sizani visited the Wines of South Africa (WoSA) Stand at ProWein in Dusseldorf on 20 March 2017. Accompanied by Embassy official Ms Setlhare, he met with Wines of South Africa (WoSA) representatives as well as with all SA stakeholders involved in this year's wine fair. WoSA’s theme this year was “Discover South Africa”, showcasing a wide array of wines with over 90 producers presented, from well established brands to new, up and coming wineries. The 2016 wine grape harvest amounted to 1,477,048 tons (1,154,0 million litres) with wine production at 968,4 million litres, 9.6 million litres up from the figure of 958.8 million litres.

This year, attention was especially drawn to wines that are accredited by ethical trade organisations, WIETA, Fairtrade and Fair for Life. With any of these certifications, producers document their outstanding commitment to improving the socially sustainable and ethical conditions for their workers and to ensure transparency and fair processes throughout the entire value-chain in order to grow and uplift the lives of wine farm workers in South Africa.
