Pop-up-Exhibition in Hamburg KUNSThoch3 with Artworks from South Africa and Germany

Barbara Lenhard and Florian Gast’s exhibition project KUNSThoch3 encompasses more than 150 works by 25 artists. The centerpiece of the pop-up exhibition is The Travelling Art Gallery with artists from South Africa and the African continent. Transport crates were sent halfway around the world to show Hamburgers the carefully curated works of exceptional contemporary artists such as Cornè Theron, Andrew Ntshabele, Adriaan Diedericks, Natasha Barnes, Riaan van Zyl, Corné Eksteen and Jamie Danielle Smith from 22 to 31 October. The spectrum is large, colorful and strong. It ranges from daily life scenes to nature subjects, from still life to portraits, from abstract to hyperrealism, from painting to sculpture, from oil on canvas to charcoal and newsprint, from black and white to brightly colored. In addition, works by three artists from Germany will be on display: Jens-Christian Wittig, Gabriele Middelmann and Karine Gamerschlag.

A special meeting of the continents will also take place on a personal level: For the first time, in an exhibition the renowned ceramic artist Karine Gamerschlag, who is also successful as a Best Ager model, will show her works together with her daughter Sara Gaqa, who lives in South Africa. And the connection of the founders of The Travelling Art Gallery with South Africa is also close: after twelve years in Cape Town, they have been spreading their lives over both continents for a few months now, commuting between South Africa, Weimar and the stations of the exhibition.

"The Travelling Art Gallery combines our sympathy and love for the African continent, art and people. The Travelling Art Gallery launched in 2017 with the tailwind from two successful crowdfunding campaigns, giving emerging as well as established artists the opportunity to present their work to a wider audience internationally. The enthusiasm we have experienced over the last few years since the Hamburg premiere in summer 2018 and at each of the ten further exhibitions across Germany is simply overwhelming," so Barbara Lenhard, spokesperson and co-founder of the initiative.

"The three German artists Jens-Christian Wittig, Gabriele Middelmann und Karine Gamerschlag are an exciting addition to the exhibition and we are delighted to be able to show yet another very different facet of contemporary art," adds Florian Gast, who curates the exhibition.

The "Travelling Art Gallery" brings spectacular art from the other side of the world to Germany, fascinating for connoisseurs and art novices alike. A piece of South Africa for home, powerful, cheerful and profound. And also an interesting investment, because with prices ranging from 300 to 6,000 Euros, there is potential with the talented artists of tomorrow.
