Newsletter on the Repatriation of South African Citizens

As the spread of COVID-19 escalates across the world, more and more governments have had to implement strict measures which, like in South Africa, includes the declaration of a nationwide lockdown. As a result, many people find themselves stranded abroad due to the travel restrictions that are part of the lockdown conditions. DIRCO through the COVID-19 Command Centre has together with foreign embassies and South African Airways been hard at work coordinating the repatriation of citizens from and to South Africa. To date, of the 3 639 South Africans who have indicated that they would like to return, 1 332 have been repatriated. See details in the PDF attached.

South Africa's investment in
education has tripled since the
end of apartheid. At 6.6% of the
country's GDP and 17.7% of total
government spending, the
country's education spending
rate is among the highest
in the world.
