South African Elections on 18 May 2024
Voting takes place on 18 May 2024 from 7am until 7pm at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin and at the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Munich.
Voters need to bring along a valid South African ID book (green), a valid South African ID Smart Card or a Temporary ID certificate in order to be eligible to cast a vote. (NO Passports will be accepted.)
Please note that the use of mobile phones at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin and at the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Munich will not be allowed.
The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin and the Consulate General of the Republic of South Africa in Munich will remain closed on 20 May 2024 (Whit Day).
Visitor Rules
The visitors to the Embassy are required to present their ID to the Embassy's receptionist upon arrival. In turn, visitors will receive an Embassy visitors card, which needs to be carried by visitors for the duration of their visit. The Embassy visitors card need to be handed back to the receptionist on departure at which time the visitors ID will be returned, too.
Visitors are also required to adhere to the following:
No weapons are allowed on the Embassy premises.
No pets are allowed.
No food or beverages are allowed.
No wandering around the Embassy premises is allowed.
Cars and bicycles are not allowed on the premises.
The use of cell phones is not allowed.
Taking pictures in the Embassy is not allowed, whether by camera or phone.
The reception area should be quiet.
PUBLIC HOLIDAYS AND CLOSURES FOR 2024
On the following 12 Public Holidays the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa will remain closed.

- 21 March, Human Rights Day
- 29 March, Good Friday
- 1 April, Family Day
- 1 May, Labour Day
- 9 May, Ascension Day
- 20 May, Pentecost Day
- 17 June, Youth Day (for 16 June)
- 24 September, Heritage Day
- 3 October, German Reunification Day
- 25 December, Christmas Day
- 26 December, Day of Goodwill
All visa applications must be submitted in person to the South African Embassy in Berlin or the South African Consulate General in Munich, and without prior appointment. All visa applications submitted by courier/post will not be considered and will be sent back to the applicant.
Application for visas and permits are on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
