Cape Town Tourism Brief on COVID-19
On 23 March 2020 the South African President, Cyril Ramaphosa, announced a nationwide lockdown due to the growing spread of COVID-19 in our country. The lockdown will last for 21 days and will be in effect from midnight on Thursday, 26 March 2020 until midnight on Thursday 16 April 2020. This follows the address on the 15 March 2020 where a national state of disaster was declared due to the rising COVID-19 infection rate. A number of these temporary measures will impact international travel to our beautiful city:
- Travel ban on foreign nationals from high-risk countries. The high-risk countries include Italy, Iran, South Korea, Spain, Germany, France, the United States, the United Kingdom and China. (See link below for more information)
- Visa’s from these high-risk regions have been revoked
- Visa applications criteria have also been amended
Details around the duration of the travel restrictions which are currently in place are unclear however, if you have any clients in South Africa with any questions or concerns, please get them to contact their respective consulates and embassies for more information.
