Dear Friends of South Africa,

Every year on 18 July, South Africans together with the international community honour our former president and international icon, Nelson Rolihlahla Mandela, in the celebration of Nelson Mandela International Day.

This day has, since its launch in 2009, inspired individuals and communities to take action to help change the world for the better, and in doing so, building a global movement for good. This day draws inspiration from the man, affectionately known as Madiba’s, values and dedication to the service of humanity, which continues to inspire our nation to become more equal, united, and prosperous.

The COVID-19 pandemic continues to devastate our world, with its varied impacts - including human suffering on a huge scale, far-reaching restrictions to daily life in our societies and as-yet unforeseeable political, economic, and social upheaval. This crisis is also giving rise to countless success stories of solidarity, com¬passion and cooperation.

Therefore, in celebration of Nelson Mandela and his legacy, allow me to encourage you to simply do an act of kindness that impacts someone else’s life positively and thus inspiring change.

I thank you.
H.E. Ambassador Stone Sizani
