Covid-19 Update: South Africa will be moving to Alert Level 3 of the lockdown on June 1, but the coronavirus will get much worse, before it gets better, President Cyril Ramaphosa said in an address to the nation on Sunday evening.
He concluded his speech by using the words of Nelson Mandela when he said “it is now in your hands”, to urge the country to help curb the deadly disease as the ban of movement is lifted.
Here are some of the key points:
Sale of tobacco products remain prohibited
Alcohol will be sold under strict conditions and can only be consumed at home
The curfew on the movement of people will be lifted, but you should not visit family and friends
You can now exercise at any time of the day
Restaurants, bars, beauty salons and hairdressers will remain closed
No parent will be forced to send their child to school
The school calendar will be revised and the curriculum will be trimmed
Our national borders will remain closed except for the transport of goods and repatriation of nationals
Some areas have been identified as hotspots
