The Nose - A Dance Rap Opera by Jessica Nupen in Hamburg 28 – 30 October 2021

Transformed from stage to screen, The Nose is a hybrid film installation accompanied by live music. Based on the original score and rap libretto by Canadian musician and rapper Josh "Socalled" Dolgin, and arranged by South African musician Gareth Lubbe, the piece explores themes of greed, hierarchy and emancipation against an imploding backdrop of growing social tensions, political catastrophes and fake news. The spectacular stage design, together with a transnational ensemble of moving singers and singing dancers, leads to an expedition into an absurd reality driven by superstition and revelation.

In the 21st century, this absurd tale of electrifying physical expression and fused dance styles, framed by opera and rap, is given a wild new interpretation by eccentric, Hamburg-based South African choreographer and dancer Jessica Nupen.

The world premiere will take place on 28 October 2021 at Kampnagel (Hamburg).

- 28-30 October at 8:00 pm.

- English with German surtitles

- Talk with artistic director and choreographer Jessica Nupen after the performance on 29 October
