Sa Embassy mourns the passing of Ahmed Kathrada

Ahmed Kathrada passed on - Former Rivonia trialist and anti-apartheid struggle veteran Ahmed Kathrada died today, following a long illness. He was 87. After 1994, Kathrada served as a parliamentary counsellor in the Office of President Nelson Mandela.

Ahmed Mohamed Kathrada was a South African anti-apartheid activist, former political prisoner and later a respected politician. A long and illustrious life in public service and for the greater good was highlighted by his friendships with some of South Africa’s greatest leaders, such as Nelson Mandela and Walter Sisulu.
