Job Advertisement - Senior Accountant Post

The Embassy of the Republic of South Africa hereby advertises a post of a full time Senior Accountant. Please read the requirements carefully and submit the downloadable application form (see link below) until 17 October 2019.

1. Requirements

A relevant three year post-school qualification, plus 5 years experience as an accountant with administrative, financial or managerial experience. At least 2 years experience must be gained serving at the mission as Accountant. The candidate must be computer literate.

Highly detail oriented and organized worker and ability to meet assigned deadlines.

3. Duties

  • Management of Mission Cashbook System (MCS) for both DIRCO and DHA
  • Prepare monthly expenditure reports, including accounts reconciliation and cashbook statements
  • Checking expenditure vouchers and receipts against bank statements
  • Checks invoices and supporting documents and prepare for payment on expenditure voucher and other appropriate forms
  • Prepares expenditure voucher by checking invoices to ensure that goods or service have been specified correctly in relation to costs
  • Checking reimbursement claims to ensure that they are correct and in accordance with policy (admin code and financial regulations), and prepare for payment
  • Calculates and prepares all LRP staff salaries including fringe benefits and overtime on requisite formats
  • Prepares transfer note for bank with respect to transferred officials allowances as per Head Office payment advice
  • Ensures that all deliverables comply with regulatory guidelines, professional standards, and internal policies & procedures
  • Assists in preparation of monthly management report and accompanying schedules, worksheets
  • Performs internal audits of accounts payable, LRP payroll distribution and cash.
  • Assists in providing follow-up and documentation of significant variances.
  • Coordinates and resolves various issues with the bank such as cleared/non cleared payments, check differences, bank charges anomalies.
  • Checks claims against allowances
  • Creates and keeps records to verify transactions
  • Safekeeping of chequebooks and records
  • Attend to enquiries and liaise with stakeholders in Germany.
  • Assist other sections in Corporate Services as and when required.

4. The successful candidate will be expected to sign employment contract and yearly performance agreement and be able to work outside normal working hours as and when required.

The annual salary range is € 37 034 – € 57 972 excluding fringe benefits.
