Concert: The Sound of South African House - Record Release Party & concert feat. Pastor Mbhobho + Mgo & Pantsula Madness
After two days break from the beautiful game of soccer, Friday, 2 July 2010 will bring the game on the green grass back onto our television sets. First at 16.00 the Netherlands and Brazil will both try their best to get a ticket to the semi-finals and afterwards the remaining African team of the World Cup 2010, Ghana, will play against Uruguay at 20.30. Both matches can be watched at the big screen at Haus der Kulturen der Welt, the official public viewing partner of the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa.
Between these two fantastic quarter final games one can soak up the sun on the rooftop terrace of Haus der Kulturen der Welt and enjoy a concert at 18.30 h: Ayobaness – The Sound of South African House, Part I.
The term “Ayoba” means in the townships of Johannesburg: excitement. This movement started at the end of the Apartheid with Kwaito music, slow house beats with raps in Zulu, Xhosa and English. Now local house beats have been added.
The compilation Ayobaness presents this sound in its most exquisite form. Live on stage will be also DJ, comedian and singer “Pastor Mbhobho” with his trademark big hair and obvious like for shiny jewellery. Directly from the townships of Johannesburg comes Kwaito star “MGO” with his Pantsula dancers.
Admission to the concert is 5 Euro.
The second part of Ayobaness starts at 22.00 after the Ghana – Uruguay game and the admission is free.
All other games, including Germany vs Argentina, will be shown at Haus der Kulturen der Welt until the final on 11 July 2010.

Just before that final game will take place, South Africa`s shooting star Simphiwe Dana will give a concert on Sunday 11 July 2010 at 18.30 h at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. The media in South Africa have already called her the new Miriam Makeba and she sings a mix of traditional Xhosa music and Afropop, Jazz, Hip Hop, Gospel and Soul. Simphiwe Dana herself describes her music as Modern African Soul.
Her songs, which she writes herself, are about the lives of the people in South Africa. Her hit album got platinum status in South Africa and she sang for former President Nelson Mandela on his 83 birthday.
Admission for this concert is 5 Euro.
