Concert: Freshlyground - Fri 18.06.2010 | 19:00 h

After Uruguay's 3:0 win against South Africa on Wednesday, it is time to pull all the energy together and root for Bafana Bafana before their next match against France. The best way to prepare for this is to enjoy the South African spirit in Berlin in the coming days.

On Friday, 18 June 2010 at 19.00 the fantastic band “Freshlyground” will play at Haus der Kulturen der Welt and get everyone into the festive mode.  The multiethnic members of Freshlyground are the worldwide ambassadors from the rainbow nation of South Africa.

In their politically tinged, sun-filled, good-vibe pop songs, they join folklore from the Cape with reggae grooves and high-spirited, almost Celtic-sounding melodies, bringing together broad traditions from across the south of the African continent. And, at Shakira’s side, they are the ideal lineup for the official song of the World Cup, “Waka Waka”.

The admission for the concert is 5 Euro.

Poetry: Mphutlane Wa Bofelo and Napo Masheane, Sat 19.06.2010 | 18:00 h | Free admission

On Saturday 19 June 2010 at 18.00 there is a unique chance to see and hear South African author, activist and performance poet Mphutlane Wa Bofelo at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. He won the 2003 Slam Poetry Competition and the 2005 SlamJam in Durban and will perform together with Napo Masheane at Haus der Kulturen der Welt. Masheane is a member of the Spoken Word collective “Feela Sissta!” and titles such as “The Fat Black Women Sing” portray the provocative, humorous style of her works.

The admission for the poetry performance is free.

Concert: Africa Rocks! BLK JKS meet Vieux Farka Touré (RSA / Mali) - Sun 20.06.2010 | 18:30 h | Admission: 5 Euros

On Sunday 20 June at 18.30 South African band BLK JKS meet Vieux Farka Touré from Mali at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.  They are being flown in directly from the World Cup Kick-off Concert in Johannesburg.  In April 2010, BLK JKS received an award at the South African Music Award for their Pychedelic Rock Dub with a shot of Roots Reggae, Zulu Blues and Hi-life on the album "After Robots".

In November 2009, "Spex" rated the album "disc of the current edition”. But they don’t rest on their laurels, they venture into new land performing together with Mali's "21st-century African rock god" Vieux Farka Touré. The son of the legendary Ali Farka Touré, he gained worldwide renown with his 2009 album "Fondo”.
Admission to the concert is 5 Euro.

And no matter how South Africa will do in their next games, all games will continue be shown on a big screen in the foyer at Haus der Kulturen der Welt.
