Südafrikas Traum, die FIFA Fußball WeltmeisterschaftTM im eigenen Land auszutragen ist lange vor diesem denkwürdigen 15 Mai 2004 entstanden, als offiziell verkündet wurde, dass das weltgrößte Fußballfest im Jahr 2010 in Südafrika stattfinden würde. Südafrika hat sich von Anfang an dazu verpflichtet, die Weltmeisterschaft 2010 zu einer Weltmeisterschaft des gesamten afrikanischen Kontinents zu machen, einem Ereignis also, das dem wirtschaftlichen Wachstum und der Entwicklung auf dem afrikanischen Kontinent zugute kommen sollte, im Sinne einer Afrikanischen Renaissance.
