2010 FIFA World Cup: Close German-South African Cooperation Berlin, 27 May 2008. Representatives of many organisations, institutions and media came together upon an invitation of the Chargé d´Affaires of the Republic of South Africa, Mr George Johannes. They were briefed about the current status of the preparations for the 2010 FIFA World CupTM and discussed related issues and projects. This event figured as the kick-off for a series of briefings through which the Embassy of the Republic of South-Africa will continuously inform about the progress of the preparations for the 2010 FIFA World Cup South Africa. The Countdown for the organization of the WM 2010 runs since 15 May 2004. On this warm spring day the Republic of South Africa won the right to host the game. Awarding the right to organize the world-wide second largest sport event to SA is evidence of the large amount of confidence placed in the country, and thus sybolically also in the entire African continent. |
