The new Embassy in Berlin, Tiergartenstraße
After the official opening in November 2003 the new South African Embassy in Tiergartenstraße 18 invited the people of Berlin to an open day yesterday. >From as early as 9 o'clock curious guests were waiting to be admitted to the light-flooded building, which was visited by several thousand people between 10 a.m. and 16 p.m.
After a welcoming glass of South African Chardonnay or Pinot Noir the guests had the opportunity to explore the 4 storeys of the new building worth 9,5 million Euro. In the atrium of 180 square metres as well as on the upper passages there are art works from South Africa to be admired. Various materials from South Africa were used for the building, like the beige-coloured stone of the facade which comes from a quarry near Johannesburg.
During the annual "All Nations Festival" visitors will have the opportunity to visit the South African Embassy. More information at: http://www.allnationsfestival.de
