Original Music! For Original People!
Tidal Waves are widely regarded as the hardest working reggae band in South Africa, playing gigs from Oppikoppi to Pretoria, Cape Town to Potchefstroom and beyond. The band is made up of five very gifted musicians, the core of the group being held together by Jacob 'Zakes' Wulana on guitar, vocals, harmonica and vuvuzela and Sam 'Drumbo' Shoai on vocals and drum kit. The rest of the band is made up of Shadrack "Charlie" Mathopa is on the bass guitar; Johannes "Charlie" Papasha on keyboards, while Jaco "Mr." Mans wields the lead guitar.
Singer, multi-instrumentalist, and group founder Jacob "Jakes" Wulana, along with fellow founder and drummer Sam "Drumbo" Shoai, hails from the western dustbowl mining town of Klerksdorp (the rest of the band came together in Yeoville, Johannesburg). Growing up in the township, Wulana and Shoai were surrounded by a range of languages, cultures, musics-Zulu, Xhosa, Setswana, Tshivenda, Afrikaans-as well as by the music of Bob Marley, Sly and Robbie, and Curtis Mayfield. more info at www.tidalwaves.co.za

Music, Songs & Dances from South Africa
Sam, composer and master of music, started his career in 1970 with the "Malopoets", whose performances aroused enthusiasm throughout Europe and America. In1993, together with other top musicians from the African music scene, he founded his band "Sabeka". In its first year, the band was invited to perform in Paris to welcome Nelson Mandela. There followed many appearances and tours, including a matinee at the Cologne Philharmonie, numerous international festivals and the opening of Peter Gabriels new venue. Sam was featured in several TV shows and performed at the Expo in Hannover and "Africa at the Opera" in Dresden. Today he counts as one of the most important South African composers and musicians - and also enjoys teaching South African dances such as Zulu and Gumboot. (www.myspace.com/samtshabalala)

TONIK is a revolutionary auditory experience, created by the combined talents of Jann Krynauw and Ronan Skillen. Its centrepiece is the musical partnership and the sound they make transcends the mathematical limitations of one plus one, even in a live performance. Jann is a keyboard connoisseur, with a fondness for the nostalgic strains of the Fender Rhodes, Wurlitzer and accordion, but he is no stranger to modern keyboard sounds, nor to the piano. Ronan is possibly unique among modern musicians in being able to play tabla and didgeridoo at the same time, surrounding them with a rich tapestry of other percussion instruments from east, west, north and south - a hybrid kit if ever there was one. At any given moment in a live performance you are likely to be hearing a wide range of these instrumental possibilities. The duo? use of state-of-the-art technology enables rich musical configurations to be built up before your very ears. All this together makes for a rich and uplifting auditory experience...a "Tonik", in fact. TONIK won a SAMA (South African Music Award) for ‘Best Instrumental Album 2008.
