South Africa's Tourism Minister, Derek Hanekom, visits South Africa ITB stand

After the official opening of the tourism fair in Berlin (ITB) South Africa`s Tourism Minister, Derek Hanekom, visited the 52 exhibitors on the South Africa booth number 136 in hall 20 and wished them a successful trade show.

South Africa`s traditional feeder markets include Germany that ranks third after the UK and the USA. German tourists admire South Africa for its friendly and hospitable people, its diversity of culture, arts and crafts, history, wine, culinary art, adventure activities as well as the country`s beautiful landscape, spectacular beaches and abundant wildlife. Moreover, 60% of the German tourists are return-visitors who view South Africa as a tourist destination that is also an appealing place to live and work.

From January to December 2016 tourist arrivals from Germany to South Africa amounted to 311,832, showing a growth of 21.5%. Tourism Minister Derek Hanekom stated at the press conference that this record relied on the weak rand currency (1:14), the end of Ebola and the visa regulations that are more flexible now.
