Chairperson of the NCOP Mr MJ Mahlangu and Delegation Visit the Embassy on 2 December 2010

On Thursday 02 December 2010, a delegation from the National Council of Provinces (NCOP), of the Republic of South Africa, led by its Chairperson Mr MJ Mahlangu was hosted by the Chargé a.i. Ms Mbuyane-Mokone at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin. The delegation, comprising Members of Parliament from the ruling party and opposition parties as well as NCOP officials, was on a planned study tour to the German Parliament from 02 – 06 December 2010.

The main objectives of the study tour were to explore the role and the capacity of the German Parliament in the budget processes as well as the nature of support functions of agencies established to assist and advise Members of Parliament with a view to enhancing the capacity of Parliament in the area of budgeting and oversight through the establishment of a Budget Office.  Other appointments also included the Berlin Senate and the Federal Ministry of Finance.

In her welcome remarks the Chargé a.i. Ms Mbuyane-Mokone reassured the delegation that the Embassy was working towards a positive outcome of the visit and that its success will contribute to further enhance the already excellent relations between the peoples and governments of South Africa and Germany.

The visit took place as a sequel to an earlier visit in March 2010 when the NCOP delegation, also led by the Chairperson, Mr Mahlangu, was invited by their German counterparts.
