Visit of the Sparrow Schools Choir to the Embassy in Berlin

Berlin, 15 September 2010.  The Sparrow Schools choir, comprising twelve students, were guests at the Embassy of the Republic of South Africa in Berlin. The students, aged between 14 to 17 years, are all children with learning challenges.  This school aims to equip and prepare the youth for positive participation in society thus ensuring that they can find a suitable job or income. As part of their programme, the schools provide affordable, quality specialised education, practical vocational skills training and comprehensive learner support. The choir came to Germany for one week during which time the students performed at the Embassy, different schools in Berlin and was even hosted by Mr. Klaus Wowereit, the Mayor of Berlin.  The Embassy staff was very impressed by their vocal skills demonstrated at an impromptu performance while accompanied only by drums. A small reception afterwards gave the students the chance to mingle with Embassy staff and ask questions.
